Take profits
Now and not tomorrow
Today, I'm going to tell you some stories that are not nice to tell.
We think we can live a quiet, linear, expected life but life always finds ways to surprise us pleasantly or ... terribly.
Ups and downs that steer the ship of your destiny and the truth is, even if we try to plan as much as possible, we don't know what tomorrow will bring.
We often talk about how to overcome the lows? To keep hope alive and that everything will get better, but we forget one crucial piece of advice: take profits when everything is going well.
The highs are like the lows, they don't last forever and you need to capitalize on your momentum.
I will give you several examples from my personal experience.
The golden opportunity
In a previous life, I could have had a career in one of the fields that interested me. I received a MASSIVE GOLD proposal that could have made my career take off. As a good fool and as I had several offers at the time, I did not know how to identify the value of this offer, I chose to work with other people I was used to working with. In truth, I was afraid and I told myself that I would succeed even if it would take more time.
As a result, I let my chance pass, my career never took off and I gave up at some point.
Golden opportunities don't come along very often. It's your golden ticket to a better life. When you do enough good work, life sends you the right people who can help you grow, but if you turn your back on fate, the universe can't help you if you refuse its help.
When things are going well, we have an abundance mentality and it can be harder to identify those goldens tickets. They may look like opportunities like any other but they are not. Don't let them slip away.
Capitalize on something that works
Some opportunities are temporal. There are deals that must be done quickly or you will never be able to take advantage of them again. When you are successful, the opportunities will multiply. Your mailbox will fill up and the phone will ring constantly. Before the pandemic, I had lots and lots and lots of work. Sometimes I even turned people away. A few months later, my order book emptied. And the pandemic hurt for more than two years. When you have opportunities and success, take advantage of them. Say yes, popularity can end overnight. As long as you can grow the bag, do it.
Keep the same work ethic, even after you've achieved success. Abundance mentality should not be an excuse to become an arrogant person who says no too easily.
Double down
When something works, that's often when entrepreneurs will slow down. It's finally working, it's time to take a breath...
No, when it's working, it's time to double down, to put the pedal to the metal. You finally have momentum, it's time to do everything you can to succeed exponentially.
This is a problem that I myself have often experienced, it is perhaps unconscious and sometimes we are satisfied with our results. When I first reached a certain salary level, I thought to myself: "Why try to get more?" when the right mentality would be to think about "How can I get even better results?'“
Many will tell me that the grind doesn't have to be infinite but they forget that there are only two ways: forward and backward and if you don't move forward, you move backward.
Taking profits
Again, this is something I've experienced myself and seen a LOT of in the last few years. When an operation has worked for you, take your profits and stop waiting.
I lost thousands of dollars holding cryptos after the 2017 peak.
I thought I had learned from my mistakes and even though I lost a lot less proportionally, I still lost $ holding assets during the last bull run.
There's a kind of greed vice that gets into you when you're in profit, a little voice that tells you "You can earn more."
Fatal mistake: secure the bag, there will be other moves.
This email is coming to an end.
I usually have an outro but not today.
If you are in a period where you are motivated, capitalize on this one. Do the extra step while you can.
Your future self will thank you.
