Priority
It's how you win
On Monday, I told you about the fact that I had written my email before going to the gym and that it was not a good thing.
I want to be a writer but I also want to be healthy. And I can't be a good writer if I'm not healthy.
What's the most important thing?
Writing?
Or working out?
The answer is very simple and we all know it.
The problem is that we all too often forget the priorities and focus on the other things that are not important.
I don't know what your priorities are in your life but the barriers must be clear. There is one universal priority for everyone: being healthy.
When you organize your day, this universal priority must be number 1.
That includes three things:
- Getting enough sleep (not enough sleep is a disaster)
- Eating properly
- Exercise (gym, weight training, yoga, long walk ...)
I'll say it again: I don't know what your priorities are, but everyone should have health as their number one priority.
It is impossible to succeed without taking care of yourself.
What good are millions if you can't spend them? (ask the guy in John Wick 3)
Two things:
- Be selfish with your time. Set aside time for these three activities. The rest doesn't really matter. These three activities are the foundation of a healthy life
- Respect your priorities
There needs to be a hierarchy of habits.
In mine, I normally don't let myself write in that I haven't done my workout. My day is organized according to my hierarchy of habits. From the most important to the least.
This way, I know I'm making progress as soon as I wake up on the most important things.
And at the end of the day, the day is still won even if I didn't get everything done because the important things were done.
This is another of the traps that self improvement creates.
Not all habits are created equal.
And some won't do anything to improve your life if you don't do the important ones.
Many people don't understand why they aren't making progress. They feel like they're doing things every day, but ... they're not doing the right things.
Doing 1 hour of journaling every day won't help you if you don't exercise and eat anything.
There is a list of priorities to respect and life only gets in the right direction when these priorities are respected.
Find out what is most important to you.
Then design your life around those things.
One last time, be selfish for a while ... so you can be selfless for a lifetime.
