I continue to write and rewrite my comments, here, to this issue of UBI/UHI. I even popped up Gemini to debate the issue with my beliefs versus your post. This subject fascinates me! But so does the idea that dragons and knights would have occupied the same historical timeline and why we love that concept in our storytelling. But I digress. I have nine grandchildren. I have concerns, for their generation (and even their parents), about the brave new world that Mr. Musk is envisioning. The struggles I have are not unique theories and it is my hope that our past does not equal our future, when it comes to human behavior, when we live in a future world of excess and excesses. However, I subscribe to something beyond Maslow's Hierarchy: Tony Robbins and Cloe Madane's six human needs. These are psychological pursuits that determine human behavior. Most of us chase the four needs of self: Certainty, Significance, Variety, and Connection. The other two needs: Growth and Contribution are the needs of the spirit (character) (and evolving from only connection to unconditional love). If humanity and individuals are to operate at their highest potential, they must evolve from selfish to selfless. Our history does not demonstrate such high level thinking, at large.

To bring this to a finish, because this is the experiment of experiments on the human race, and I could rail forever!

I believe there are four major hurdles we face with UBI/UHI:

The Sloth Gap: If the floor is high, why would the "bottom 40%" do anything other than consume cheap dopamine until they die? We do that with our excess time and income now.

The Tyranny of the "Significance Seekers": The 40% at the top of the wealth pyramid will just find more vicious, tribal ways to feel "better" than each other (Identity politics, intellectual elitism)? Is it safe to assume that with UHI, we all become Elon? (who he himself is a womanizer and drug user).

The Parenting Paradox: How do you stop a broken parent from raising a broken child in a world where the state can't "force" better parenting without becoming a police state? Abuse is real. Verbal, physical, and sexual abuse change generations. Will UBI/UHI create better parents and families and stop cycles?

The Hedonic Treadmill: If everyone gets the same income, then that will feel like "zero" in time.

These are not the most compelling concepts. Only scratching the surface of a fascinating discussion! However, I do believe that the experiment will take multi-generations (500-1000 years) before we become the society of "Demolition Man" {smile}...as we are considering a worldwide adoption of UBI/UHI for all of humanity to move toward Orwellian dystopia...I mean utopia {wink}.

Amazing post! I always love hearing (or reading, I suppose) what you have to say. Your devotion to yourself and humanity is very apparent. J’adore!
