Main Character Energy
Message from Another World
I had a dream.
It was a few days ago.
I wrote about it in this note.
I spent a few days pondering the meaning of these words.
In the first place, it seems to be in direct opposition to those who are not the main characters in their lives. I can more or less see what it means, since there was a time when I lived my life as a NPC (non-playable character).
They watch others accomplish.
They never try anything.
They never enter the arena.
They don’t take risks.
Their days pile up in dreary monotony.
They follow their script without breaking any rules.
They gave up on the idea of becoming the heroes of their lives.
They know that deep down, there’s something wrong.
But the comfort in which they live creates the illusion that it could be worse. They live their lives passively. Having given up any idea of accomplishing their great quest.
I was that soul without ambition. Letting life unfold, with the sole aim of watching the latest TV series, playing the latest video game, having a few of the latest gadgets…
Anesthetizing myself with the best the world has to offer in artificial dopamine.
I used to play a lot of video games.
A paradox, since I’ve spent hours developing virtual characters in RPG or PVP games while neglecting my main character.
Countless hours learning all kinds of skills, increasing my professions, my game level… with the aim of completing the content offered by the game or climbing to the highest rankings.
I guess in the game, I could be somebody.
Being a gladiator on World of Warcraft in the early arena seasons seemed like something I could be proud of. Or having the Twilight Vanquisher title before anyone else. Or becoming a master on Starcraft or trying to climb the League of Legends rankings.
All were chimerical achievements in non-existent worlds.
All that wasted time when there’s something better to play for: the game of life.
If only I’d had the urge to develop my main character as much as a video game character.
If I had understood that
Read 100 pages = +1 intellect point
Reading an entire book = + 1 wisdom point
Doing an hour of cardio = +1 endurance point
Doing an hour of muscle toning = +1 strength point
Respect your diet = +1 health point
Work for an hour on this side project =+ 1 point in secondary work
Getting 8 hours of sleep = +1 constitution
…
But you can also carry a lot of malus
Scroll for more than 1hr stupidly = -1 intellect
Eating poorly = -1 health
Not getting enough sleep = -1 health
Sleeping past midnight = +1 fatigue
…
If I hadn’t wasted all that time over the years on pointless activities, I’d probably already have beaten a lot of the bosses of real life and passed several levels.
Even if we don’t count it, in real life, our main character needs skill points and the necessary experience to pass the different levels and go higher.
It took me many years to get back on track.
And I was starting from so far because I had wasted so much.
I had to lose almost everything to rekindle the dreams that were buried inside me.
Today, the most important game is the game of life. And I try to pay attention to all the traps that surround me and that want to prevent me from accomplishing my main quest.
I don’t know what your life goal is.
But to have the main character energy is to become aware of your great quest. And making it a priority for you. That you know where you want to end up. That you’re no longer a spectator, but an actor in your life.
To accept that you’re going to have to work to acquire the skill points and experience you need to get there. And to do it so well that even the luck factor disappears.
Are you the main character in your life?

Great metaphor for this Game of Life. So many opportunities to “level up,” and yet fear and ennui often keep us in that watching, rather than playing, role. I’ve never played games, although I’ve admired the artwork and music in them many times, but I love the concept of earning +1 or -1 points. I look forward to incorporating a point system into my Journaling practice. “Gaming” our goals just sounds like a lot more fun. ♥️🎮
Don’t skip the side quests, you gotta level up if you wanna beat the main boss.
Lotta people want to skip straight to the end without puttin in the reps, no bueno.
Great read.
