Love Bends Space and Time
Another of our Human Superpowers.
Yesterday, I was writing a series about time.
We have this finite conception of time with a past, present and future.
I was exploring the feeling of Deja Vu, tangling the threads of time.
And we, humans, have superpowers to influence line supposed to be straight.
Some of our actions influence today, but also several generations into the future.
One of our greatest superpower is Love.
The love we distribute today becomes eternal in the memory of those who remain.
It can influence their trajectories, change their destinies.
A practical example?
Call someone you love with all your heart.
Tell them
“I want you to know I love you.
I want you to remember that I love you.
That I’m proud of you, that I always will be.
If you’re ever lonely, remember: I love you.”
The person will surely be surprised by this sudden declaration of love. But if the words are sincere, they’ll be engraved in her heart. She’ll remember… forever.
The day she feels lonely: she’ll remember, she’s loved. Someone said those words to her. She’s heard them, they’re real. These words will become a precious light in her life, whether you’re there or not.
These words will give her courage to bear her pain.
The power of your today's love can change her future.
Love is an extra dimension for human beings.
A power we don’t really understand.
Interstellar explores the idea that love is so strong, it can change time.
And this theme has been the subject of passionate texts by authors
Blaise Pascal said, centuries ago:
“L‘amour a ses raisons que la raison ne connait point.’”
“Love has it’s reason that the reason does not know.”
A quote we see in our feeds, but few of the people who share it dwell on its philosophical meaning.
Pascal wasn’t just saying that love makes us lose our rationality.
But he did want to support the idea that love draws its power from a dimension unknown to man.
A feeling that our bodies can’t fight.
A feeling beyond reason, beyond intellectual restraint.
A feeling so powerful it’s inexplicable to human reason.
Love is a force we can’t fight: we know we love, we don’t need reason for it.
We know and that’s enough.
This irrationality is common to all eras.
All great stories and myths are based on love.
Gilgamesh’s quest for immortality out of love for his friend Enkidu
Menelaus will start a long war for the love of Helen of Troy.
Leonidas will embrace death for love of his homeland, his family and his lands.
Romeo & Juliet is probably the most irrational story to symbolize the irresistible force of love.
From meeting to wedding : less than 24 hours.
They are ready to give up everything to experience this feeling that runs through their soul. They battle their families, deny their identities.
Only 4 short days between their epiphany and their tragic fates.
Great heroic achievements have their source in love.
By giving love to those you love.
You give them a strength with infinite power.
They can draw on your love to find courage.
Love it.
Show it.
It’s not because some people have disappointed you that you should stop loving.
It’s not because some people were unable to receive all the love you had to give that you have to give less.
They’re the ones who need to change, not you.
Don’t be afraid to give the love that’s inside you.
Give it, share it, spread it.
Don’t expect anything in return.
The essential is to love.
After this eulogy of love.
I must end with a warning.
I’d just say love those who deserve to be loved.
Together your love increases tenfold.
To love the wrong people is to let that force flow into a bottomless void.
Love thieves feed on love givers.
Give to those who use it to build, not destroy.
Have a lovely Wednesday.
