How to progress?
The real secret
I've been lucky enough to play a lot of sports at a fairly high level.
I like to play, but I like to win.
When I start a sport or a discipline, I put my heart into it.
I'm obsessed with it, I want to understand everything and I want to be able to beat opponents.
These obsessions made me one of the best players in Europe on several video games and one of the best in my country on others.
I played some sports at a regional level.
I played poker tournaments, billiards, chess...
And that allowed me to have several lives in one life.
What did I learn from this?
Three main lessons:
1) Anyone can get into the top 20% of a sport with enough training.
You can start from scratch.
It's just going to take a lot of training and time mostly.
But with consistency, displince, willpower … you can do it.
2) To progress, you have to train at the edge of your comfort zone
This is the secret to progress every day.
A training too hard and you will be washed out and you will not be able to keep up.
A training too easy and you will not progress.
You must adapt your training to your level.
Let the session be hard enough to push you to your limits.
Make sure the workout is not too hard so that you don't get hurt or mentally hurt.
By keeping training like this every week, you will see your progress quickly and you will break your records little by little which will prove that you are on the right track.
3) The talent gap between the 1% and the 0.1% is huge.
I really like the example of the marathon to illustrate.
1% of the world's population has finished a marathon.
And only a tiny minority of that 1% is capable of finishing a marathon in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
For someone who finishes a marathon in 3.5 hours, this is a performance that seems unattainable.
You need:
--> 6 months of training to finish a marathon in 4h30
--> years to do it in 3h30
--> a life dedicated to the marathon to do it in 2h30
And we even talk about genetic predisposition to be able to do it.
Here are my advices if you want to progress, I still have others but the post is already long enough.
So I wish you a good Thursday and I'll see you tomorrow!
