A Spiritual Encounter
Some Encounters Are Unique
The World Within has never been so aptly named.
Today, we're going to dive... deep.
A few weeks ago, I wrote this note.
I'd met this guy a few years ago. At first, it was just golden business tips that helped me a lot. But this guy is special. He talks about things you've never heard of. He's got this... unique aura.
Hard to explain. Close to him. You feel inspired. Energized. He looks at you without judgment. He accepts you as you are.
He'd started explaining levels of consciousness to me, inaccessible paradigms... It could have ended there but... I found this guy again!
He seems to be even happier than he was a few years ago. Just as welcoming. Different aura. As if his energy had transformed from burning fire to quiet strength.
He still has his illuminated look a bit sus. But this time, I listened. I can't tell you what I believed or didn't believe. He also introduced me to other thinkers.
I've transcribed some exchanges into a fictional dialogue and synthesize them as best I can. Wanted to share it with you.
Hang in there.
We're coming down.
(This dialogue must be taken for what it is. Words. Not a guide. Nor health advice. Take the best. Take out what you don't like. It’s only a fictional conversation.)
“Before we start. I wanted to apologize. A few years ago, you explained a lot of things. I thought you were delusional. I didn't listen. Back then, I was arrogant and thought I knew everything. I was wrong.”
“It's all right. The human mind is double-locked for any thought that might threaten some of its foundations. You can't hear what you don't want to hear. My apologies too, because a few years ago, I thought I knew things. I said them with a lot of confidence. It was arrogant. I shouldn't have.
Now that you know, what do you want from me?”
“You seem happy. You have this mysterious energy. You seem to be living the life you dream of. You probably understand things I don't. Let's start with levels of consciousness.”
“I'll try to keep it simple. But every word will be important. Humans don't live their lives with the same levels of consciousness. We have to see these levels of consciousness as realms. Depending on which one you're operating in, the limits of your kingdom will be greater or lesser. There's no right level of consciousness, you just have to find the one where you'll flourish the most.”
“Give me some concrete examples.”
“Levels of awareness will vary over short, medium and long time scales. On the scale of a lifetime, a season, a day, a society, an era... It will be influenced by our emotions, our physiology, our cultural and generational heritage... We will alternate several levels in a single life.”
“Explain it to me on the scale of a lifetime.”
“The simplest example is childhood. As children, we are egocentric and intuitive. The outside world does not exist. Then we grow up and integrate the “rules” of the world. We change. Maybe that's why it's often said that we need to stay connected to our inner child.”
“On the scale of emotions.”
“Love. When we love, we become capable of things we thought impossible. We enter new realms of possibility. When we love, we become capable of so much more.
Fear works in the opposite direction. It curls us in on ourselves. It limits the boundaries of our domain.
Guilt also narrows our field of possibilities. The external reflection of the world becomes tarnished by guilt, impossible to let go of. We can no longer receive what we deserve.
Anger prevents us from seeing. It clouds our vision and makes us vibrate on a frequency of impulsivity. Mistakes become more frequent.
All feelings act on our levels of consciousness. Depending on what you want to achieve, you need to find the right emotions to run through you.
All emotions are useful. But... Some uncontrolled emotions are insurmountable obstacles to your ambitions.”
“On a societal scale?”
“Let me tell you a story. The Tower of Nesles incident. Philippe IV is King of France. He has sons who will succeed him. Except they have unfaithful wives.
A scandal broke out and two knights, Gauthier and Philippe d'Aulnay, were found guilty of adultery.
With the very lineage of the crown threatened, the king decides to set an example.
The two young knights were roasted alive, flayed alive, emasculated, smeared with boiling lead, decapitated, then dragged through the streets, their bodies hanged and left on display for weeks.
Historians report “No body in history has ever suffered so much.”
“It’s disgusting.”
“Like those who sacrificed their children to stone entities in bygone eras. Like the most horrific tortures some people have endured. Like the genocides that took place. Like the horrible things that have happened throughout human history. But these things happened because humans were operating from another level of consciousness. What's impossible for you was possible for them. What is possible for us will be impossible for those of tomorrow. ”
“So we're just the barbarians of tomorrow?”
“Yes. No. Many humans of the past are admired. So are many civilizations. Maybe at some point, our humanity will decline. Maybe we're living in this time and that's why so many people are unhappy. Time will be the only judge.”
“Tell me about physiology and its impact on your level of consciousness.”
“We can change our physiology in many ways. Through our diet, our behavior, the humans with whom we interact, through sports… Let’s stay here.
For those who have already tried to go beyond their limits. They know that at some point, they change. They have access to raw, more violent thoughts. Sometimes, their anger and bestiality come to the surface. Balls of blocked emotions are released by the effort.
Those familiar with running know these mystical stories. Once the body has exceeded a certain limit, they reach ecstasy. A state of being at one with your surroundings. Past and future disappear. Only the present matters.
Or the flow state of certain athletes. At a certain point in their performance, their body acts naturally. The mind disappears and becomes one with the movement. No need to think. Reactions become mechanical and instinctive. They even regain a second breath where fatigue disappears.”
“What should I remember from all this?”
“That we can change our levels of consciousness. Through emotions, through actions, but also through the others around us. We need to be aware of this to stop letting ourselves be dominated by environments or states that limit our range of possibilities. To be aware that other fertile states exist. Our dreams may hide behind these states.
That we have unsuspected strengths when we manage to align ourselves with the right emotions, attract the right people, do the right actions. We're a flower, with unimaginable blossoming potential and we don't even know how beautiful we can be.
You should remember this.
Now, let me ask.
A few years ago, you didn't listen, now you do: what's changed?”
“Back then, I was looking for revenge. I was angry. Today, I'm looking for peace.”
“You're on your way. You may be coming out of your Dark Night of the Soul.”
“My what? I've never heard of this.”
“Dark Night of The Soul. It goes by different names. Ego death for some. Spiritual death for others. Alchemists will speak of the Solve & Coagula process. Those who see it can only find the words deep depression to describe it.
It's normal to have never heard of it. It's not something you look for, but something that happens. It's the disintegration of all the masks and social constructs accumulated since birth. The personas we build to interact socially. A spiritual death.
We inherit cultural, parental and societal rules that are grafted onto our personality. We follow a path for years, decades, until we reach a pivotal moment.
It's often triggered by a traumatic event. But it can be triggered by other means. The trauma can be a failure, job loss, illness, death of a loved one, break-up... An event so dramatic that it will disintegrate all the constructs you have and shatter all your personas.
Underneath, the original “I” remains. The individual will feel alone and lost. He'll be wandering in a lightless, oxygen-free zone. He'll have a violent crisis of meaning.
“Why? What’s the point?” becomes an obsession. He followed a path. He thought it would make him happy. It's all falling apart. His life was a lie. He lose faith. He feels abandoned by life. By the universe itself.
He experiences death, except that his body is not. He contemplates the void. A bottomless abyss, eye to eye. He no longer feels anything. Strange, because emotions are what make us human. If he can no longer feel. Is he still alive?
After suffering comes clarity.
If these masks have brought him to this point, he must part with them. Become what's left at the bottom. Embrace what he's always been. What's the point of being someone else if you're doomed to fail? If he can get out of this place, he's purged of his old life. With a new resolve, he can be himself and no one else. Uncompromising. What was an end was just a beginning.”
“That sounds dramatic.”
“It is. Some don't make it. Some half make it. Trapped in a limbo of questioning. And some may be reborn. The only good word I can say to someone going through this dark journey is that they can see it as a chance to meet themselves.”
“How do I know if I'm on the right track?”
“A healthy human loves himself. As he loves himself, he protects himself from anything that might harm him. Energy, action, and people. You know you're on the right track when your energy and your mental/physical health become a non-negotiable priority.”
“Give me an example.”
“There was this father who was a heavy smoker. All his life. He smoked all over the house. Couldn't quit. He couldn't help it. One day, his young son fell ill. Lung disease. The event changed everything about his behavior. He stopped smoking from that day on. Got rid of all the toxic behaviors that could have harmful effects on him or his loved ones. His son recovered. He asked for forgiveness. Since then, he's done his best to protect those he loves.
There was this person, had lots of meaningless relationships. Big consumer of digital content. He met a girl who changed his paradigm. She showed him what real love was. The spiritual connection of two bodies. The power of the exchange between two beings. From that moment on, he healed his sexuality. He refuses relationships that are bad for his energy. He no longer consumes the content that siphons off his energy.
They had to go through difficult times to understand the importance of the essentials.
They both knew they were hurting themselves. But they couldn't control their desires and vices. They felt ashamed and imprisoned. Now, their demons no longer hold sway over them. They no longer feel like betraying themselves.”
“Are there any other ways to find out?”
“When the individual accepts the flow of the universe. At peace with himself. The vibration changes and he can finally attract what he wants to attract. He’s no longer in the energy of searching. He does his best and what has to happen happens. Allies will come naturally.
No more surviving.
Nothing to prove.
No need to play a role.
He is.
That's enough.
He finds his place in a greater whole.”
“So, can I just be?”
“You're trying to be impertinent. And you know it. Are you happy when you stay in a lethargic state doing nothing? No, because our natural state is being alive.
Each of us has different ways of feeling alive. Be is about being who you are. Not, not being. Life no longer becomes resistance or suffering because what you experience is what makes you happy. Like when you do something you love for hours. You don't think about fatigue. You don't even get tired. You're just in the flow of your being.
Living an aligned life means nourishing what your soul needs on a daily basis.”
“Thank you for our exchange. I still have a lot of questions and we'll have to meet again.”
“We'll do it, if the universe wants us to.”
“I feel like I owe you something.”
“Do I look like a hooker?”
“With the right wig, maybe.”
“You're a funny man.”
“You're a fascinating man.”
“You don't owe me anything. Human relationships are not meant to be transactional. We can give and get richer. But it will take a few more generations for this to become self-evident.”
“Thank you.”
There are still plenty of subjects I haven't been able to cover. Because there have been far too many conversations and I still have to process them.
See you next Sunday for more adventures.
In the meantime, you can follow me on Notes.

(A little like changes everything)

I identify with this on a level I can’t explain. Thank you. I love the way it stretched my mind and validated quite a bit of my experience. Well done.
This really was fascinating. And I have to say, it felt validating to hear someone else say all the things I’ve come to believe over a lifetime. Coincidentally, I’m teaching a class to my high school students tomorrow to get them thinking about levels of consciousness - I have them do some writing, and then we do a meditation together, and they write some more. Often, they observe the difference in their before and after writing because the meditation allows them to switch from tunnel awareness to open awareness. This is the reason I love meditation. It helps you get out of your head and feel more connected to the universe. And then everything just starts to come into focus. But I digress…Thank you for finding that guy again and sharing such a thought-provoking post!
